If
you need a shed, as I did, for storing yard tools and such, which
one will do the best job? Should you buy a wood shed or a metal
shed? Just the words ‘wood shed' can bring back some memories of
younger days and where you went when it was time for a serious
heart-to-heart about your behavior. Maybe a shed made from metal
rather than wood will be a smart choice.
The sheds all come in different
sizes so you will find there is one available that will hold pretty
much anything you want to put inside. Since they are treated during
construction, the incidence of rusting is not an immediate problem.
However, if they sit for a long time in an area that is humid, this
may be a concern.
There is a paint made for this
type of material that can be used when the shed begins to show
signs of rusting. To keep it from becoming an eyesore, you should
check into this if your building is beginning to succumb to the
elements. If they are allowed to sit and rust, sooner or later they
will need to be torn down.
The conveniences of these types
of sheds are one of the factors that most people consider when
deciding which type to purchase. They are also very easy to put
together. They do not require a foundation if you choose not to,
but they can be placed on one if you desire. This has a two-fold
purpose because placing it on a foundation can keep pests out
especially with the help of a little insulating foam.
If you do not use a foundation,
the ground is an entrance point. Since these pests can enter
through very small spaces the foundation is a good idea. Another
beneficial aspect is they are made from aluminum and steel, which
is not an easy access for pests. I do not want to uncover a nest of
mice when looking for something in my shed and I suspect you do not
either.
Today most people opt for metal
sheds since they are so easy to put together. They can be used for
a variety of things in the back yard as well. A place to store your
lawnmower out of the elements is one use. The rakes, shovels and
other yard and garden tools are safe inside a metal shed. If you
live in an area that has cold winters, you may want to store lawn
furniture until time to use it again.
Metal sheds are also an economic
way of having the storage needed for items you want to keep up
until you need them. Wooden sheds are more expensive and require
more assembly than metal sheds. Some wooden sheds are even built to
resemble people's houses. They are constructed using the same
siding and trim as the houses.
Regardless of what you need it
for, the fastest to construct and the most economical types of
storage are metal sheds. They are used by far more people than any
other type. The handy feature of shelves that attach to the walls
are great for storing smaller items that are forever getting lost.
As long as they are taken care of metals sheds are durable and can
last for quite a while.
